Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Associate Consultant in Hemato-Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) to provide comprehensive clinical care to patients with hematological malignancies and patients undergoing bone marrow/hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The role involves diagnosis, treatment planning, patient management, multidisciplinary coordination, and participation in transplant-related clinical services.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with hematological malignancies and other hematological disorders.

• Manage patients with conditions such as acute and chronic leukemias, lymphomas, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative disorders, and other blood cancers.

• Participate in the evaluation and management of patients undergoing autologous and allogeneic bone marrow/stem cell transplantation.

• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in accordance with established clinical protocols and guidelines.

• Manage patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and other systemic treatments.

• Monitor patients for treatment-related complications, infections, cytopenias, graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), and other transplant-related complications.

• Conduct pre-transplant evaluation and coordinate donor and recipient work-up in collaboration with the transplant team.

• Provide post-transplant follow-up and long-term patient monitoring.

• Perform or assist with procedures relevant to the specialty, as per institutional protocols and privileges.

• Review laboratory, pathology, flow cytometry, cytogenetic, molecular, and imaging reports for clinical decision-making.

• Coordinate care with Pathology, Radiology, Transfusion Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Critical Care, and other multidisciplinary teams.

• Participate in multidisciplinary tumour boards and clinical case discussions.

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, treatment records, and discharge summaries.

• Counsel patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis, treatment-related risks, and follow-up care.

• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, clinical protocols, infection-control standards, and patient-safety requirements.

• Participate in academic activities, teaching, clinical audits, research, and continuous medical education programs.

• Contribute to quality-improvement initiatives within the Hemato-Oncology and BMT department.

• Provide emergency and on-call clinical support as required by the department.

Educational Qualification

• MBBS from a recognized medical institution.

• MD/DNB in General Medicine, Pediatrics, or an equivalent recognized specialty, as applicable.

• DM/DNB/Fellowship in Clinical Hematology, Medical Oncology, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

• Additional formal training/fellowship in Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) will be preferred.

Experience

• Relevant clinical experience in Hemato-Oncology, Clinical Hematology, and/or Bone Marrow Transplantation.

• Experience in managing hematological malignancies and transplant patients will be preferred.

• Candidates with exposure to autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation will be advantageous.

Key Competencies

• Strong clinical and diagnostic skills in Hemato-Oncology and Clinical Hematology.

• Knowledge of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and transplant protocols.

• Ability to manage complex and critically ill oncology patients.

• Good communication and counselling skills.

• Strong multidisciplinary coordination and teamwork.

• Commitment to patient safety, ethical medical practice, and evidence-based care.

• Ability to work effectively in a high-volume tertiary-care hospital environment.
