Job Description

Designation: Consultant 


Clinical Responsibilities

  • Admit patients and perform procedures independently in accordance with privileges granted as per hospital policy.
  • Conduct inpatient rounds independently and along with junior consultants and duty medical officers (DMOs).
  • Supervise registrars and ensure effective and efficient discharge of their duties.
  • Review and verify examination findings, diagnostic interpretations, and medication orders documented by junior consultants and registrars.
  • Provide appropriate patient education and counseling as required.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in medical records, including date, time, name, and signature for all entries.
  • Countersign verbal orders issued to DMOs, junior consultants, and registrars as required.
  • Prepare and manage the on-call rota in coordination with departmental colleagues and registrars.
  • Address patient concerns and complaints escalated by registrars or nursing staff in a timely manner.
  • Issue discharge orders based on patient condition and guide the registrar/resident for completion of discharge formalities.
  • Attend and manage all emergencies during on-call duty.
  • Train, mentor, and guide residents and registrars in clinical practice.
  • Ensure strict adherence to hospital policies, protocols, and clinical guidelines.
  • Support quality initiatives by ensuring compliance with standards and closure of non-conformities.

Research Responsibilities

  • Conduct clinical and translational research aimed at improving patient outcomes and advancing medical science.
  • Participate in clinical trials, protocol development, and publication of research findings.
  • Serve as a thesis guide/mentor for fellows, residents, and PhD candidates.

Teaching & Academic Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in ongoing academic and teaching programs within the department.
  • Deliver lectures, case discussions, and bedside teaching sessions for residents and students.
  • Organize and contribute to workshops, seminars, and conferences at local, regional, and national levels.
