Job Description – Junior Consultant

Designation: Junior Consultant
Reporting To: Head of the Department (HOD)


1. Cognitive Clinical Management

The Junior Consultant is responsible for clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management planning of patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and document detailed patient history and physical examination.

  • Formulate differential diagnoses based on clinical findings.

  • Develop and document the initial plan of care for patients.

  • Review and modify the daily treatment plan as required.

  • Interpret laboratory investigations and radiology reports.

  • Interpret hemodynamic parameters in critically ill patients.

  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive discharge summaries.


2. Clinical Non-Invasive Management

The Junior Consultant will manage patient care using non-invasive diagnostic and treatment approaches.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Order appropriate laboratory tests and diagnostic investigations.

  • Initiate appropriate medication and treatment orders.

  • Order blood transfusions and blood products when indicated.

  • Interpret non-invasive vascular testing where applicable.

  • Initiate referrals to relevant specialties when required.

  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) during emergencies.

  • Order and adjust artificial nutritional support and feeding modalities.

  • Participate in departmental and interdepartmental teaching and academic activities.

  • Supervise and maintain administrative oversight of junior doctors and technical staff.


3. Clinical Invasive Management

The Junior Consultant will assist or perform invasive procedures under the supervision of the Consultant when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Insert central venous catheters.

  • Perform oral endotracheal intubation.

  • Perform nasogastric tube insertion.

  • Insert urethral catheters.

  • Assist in vascular surgical procedures as required.

  • Perform surgical procedures under the supervision of the Consultant.

  • Provide surgical coverage for ICU patients.

  • Assist or perform re-exploration procedures when indicated.
