1. Clinical Competencies

A. Cognitive Clinical Management

  • Perform and document detailed history and physical examination
  • Formulate differential diagnosis
  • Develop and document initial plan of care
  • Modify daily plan of care as required
  • Write and maintain daily progress notes
  • Interpret laboratory and radiology results
  • Interpret hemodynamic parameters in critically ill patients
  • Prepare comprehensive discharge summaries
  • Participate in teaching and academic activities (intra- and interdepartmental)
  • Exercise administrative supervision over junior doctors and technical staff

B. Clinical Non-Invasive Management

  • Obtain and document informed consent
  • Perform pre-operative work-up
  • Order appropriate referrals and investigations
  • Prescribe medications and treatment plans
  • Order transfusions of blood and blood products
  • Perform digital rectal examination
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Order and adjust artificial feeding modalities
  • Perform and interpret non-invasive cardiac and pulmonary function tests

C. Clinical Invasive Management

  • Insert central venous catheter
  • Perform oral endotracheal intubation
  • Perform nasogastric intubation
  • Insert urethral catheter
  • Perform CTVS surgical procedures as per privileges
  • Assist in surgical procedures under consultant supervision
  • Provide surgical cover to ICU
  • Perform ICD (Intercostal Drain) insertion
  • Perform PD (Peritoneal Dialysis) catheter insertion
  • Perform/assist in re-exploration procedures

2. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care in accordance with hospital policies and clinical protocols
  • Perform procedures and surgeries as per assigned privileges
  • Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Supervise and guide junior medical and technical staff
  • Respond to clinical emergencies, including ICU requirements
  • Maintain patient safety and quality of care standards

3. Teaching & Academic Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in departmental teaching programs
  • Contribute to academic discussions, case presentations, and CME activities
  • Support training and development of junior doctors

4. Research Responsibilities

  • Engage in clinical research and evidence-based practice
  • Contribute to advancements in cardiac and thoracic care

5. Compliance & Quality

  • Adhere to NABH and hospital accreditation standards
  • Follow infection control and patient safety protocols
  • Ensure proper documentation and audit compliance
