Job Description (JD) – Senior Resident, Department of ENT (Otorhinolaryngology)

Designation: Senior Resident – ENT
Department: Otorhinolaryngology (ENT)
Reports to: Professor & Head of Department / Unit Chief

Purpose of the Position

To provide comprehensive ENT patient care, participate in surgical services, teaching, research, and academic activities, while ensuring adherence to hospital policies and National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct ENT outpatient (OPD) consultations and inpatient (IPD) management.
  • Perform detailed history taking, clinical examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Manage ENT emergencies including epistaxis, airway obstruction, foreign body removal, facial trauma, and tracheostomy care.
  • Perform and assist in ENT procedures such as:
    • Diagnostic nasal endoscopy
    • Flexible/Rigid laryngoscopy
    • Ear microscopy
    • Foreign body removal
    • Incision and drainage of abscesses
    • Tracheostomy
  • Assist and perform elective and emergency ENT surgeries under supervision according to competency.
  • Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care.
  • Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary case discussions.

2. Academic Responsibilities

  • Teach and supervise undergraduate (MBBS), interns, and junior residents.
  • Conduct tutorials, bedside clinics, seminars, and journal clubs.
  • Present interesting cases and departmental clinical meetings.
  • Participate in CMEs, workshops, and academic conferences.
  • Undertake research activities, publications, and clinical audits.

3. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate patient records, case sheets, operative notes, discharge summaries, and procedure logs.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control protocols.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining OT equipment and endoscopic instruments.
  • Perform duties assigned by the Head of Department.
