Position: Senior Resident – Clinical Immunology & Rheumatology

Job Summary

The Senior Resident – Clinical Immunology & Rheumatology will provide comprehensive clinical care to patients with autoimmune, inflammatory, rheumatological, and immunological disorders. The role includes outpatient and inpatient management, emergency care, diagnostic evaluation, procedural assistance, teaching, research, and multidisciplinary coordination under the supervision of the Consultant/HOD.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients in the Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology OPD and provide appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic management.
• Conduct detailed clinical assessments, including rheumatological examination and systemic evaluation.
• Manage inpatients with autoimmune, inflammatory, connective-tissue, and immunological disorders.
• Assess and manage rheumatological emergencies and acute complications.
• Diagnose and manage conditions such as:
  • Rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory arthritis
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus
  • Spondyloarthritis and psoriatic arthritis
  • Systemic sclerosis
  • Sjögren syndrome
  • Vasculitis
  • Inflammatory myopathies
  • Antiphospholipid syndrome
  • Autoinflammatory disorders
  • Osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and metabolic bone disorders
  • Primary and secondary immunodeficiency disorders
  • Other autoimmune and immune-mediated diseases
• Interpret relevant laboratory and immunological investigations, including ANA, ENA, complement levels, immunoglobulins, autoantibodies, inflammatory markers, and other specialized tests.
• Review and interpret relevant imaging, including X-rays, ultrasound, CT, and MRI, in the clinical context.
• Initiate and monitor immunosuppressive, immunomodulatory, biologic, and targeted therapies as appropriate and under consultant supervision.
• Monitor patients for treatment response, drug toxicity, infections, and other complications of immunosuppressive therapy.
• Perform or assist with relevant procedures such as joint aspiration and intra-articular injections, according to training and institutional privileges.
• Provide pre-treatment screening, vaccination advice, infection-risk assessment, and appropriate monitoring for patients receiving immunosuppressive or biologic therapies.
• Counsel patients and relatives regarding disease nature, treatment options, medication adherence, prognosis, and lifestyle modifications.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care with nephrology, dermatology, pulmonology, neurology, orthopedics, infectious diseases, ophthalmology, and other relevant specialties.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including case records, progress notes, discharge summaries, and treatment plans.
• Supervise and guide junior residents, interns, and medical students.
• Participate in academic activities including case presentations, journal clubs, seminars, CME programs, and departmental teaching.
• Participate in clinical research, clinical audits, registries, publications, and quality-improvement initiatives.
• Participate in departmental emergency and on-call duties.
• Follow hospital policies, infection-control procedures, patient-safety standards, and professional and ethical guidelines.
