Role Summary

A Duty Doctor provides round-the-clock clinical care for admitted patients and emergency cases, ensuring timely treatment and coordination with specialists and nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine and assess OPD/IPD/emergency patients
  • Handle medical emergencies and stabilize patients
  • Conduct ward rounds and monitor patient progress
  • Prescribe medications and initiate treatment plans
  • Assist consultants during rounds and procedures
  • Maintain patient documentation, discharge summaries, and EHR updates
  • Coordinate with nurses, labs, radiology, ICU, and other departments
  • Perform basic bedside procedures:
    • IV line insertion
    • Catheterization
    • Suturing
    • CPR/BLS
    • Nebulization
    • ECG interpretation
  • Communicate patient status to families and consultants
  • Ensure compliance with hospital protocols and medico-legal documentation
