Role Summary
A Surgical Gastroenterologist diagnoses and surgically treats diseases of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and related organs. The specialist performs both open and minimally invasive surgeries and manages patients before and after surgery.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and diagnose GI disorders requiring surgical intervention.
- Perform elective and emergency GI surgeries.
- Conduct laparoscopic and open surgical procedures.
- Manage hepatobiliary and pancreatic (HPB) surgical cases.
- Perform or assist with endoscopic procedures such as upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, and ERCP (depending on training and hospital setup).
- Provide pre-operative assessment and post-operative care.
- Attend surgical emergencies and ward rounds.
- Counsel patients and families regarding treatment plans.
- Maintain clinical documentation and medical records.
- Collaborate with gastroenterologists, oncologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, and critical care teams.
