Job Summary

The Senior Registrar is responsible for providing high-quality clinical care to critically ill patients admitted to the PITU. The role includes patient assessment, stabilization, management of critically ill patients, performing critical care procedures, coordinating multidisciplinary care, supervising junior doctors, and participating in teaching, research, and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients in the PITU.
  • Perform advanced resuscitation and stabilization.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based management plans.
  • Perform procedures such as:
    • Endotracheal intubation
    • Central venous catheter insertion
    • Arterial line insertion
    • Mechanical ventilation management
    • Lumbar puncture (where indicated)
  • Interpret laboratory and radiological investigations.
  • Participate in daily consultant-led ward rounds.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and rapid response/code blue calls.
  • Communicate effectively with patients' families regarding treatment plans and prognosis.
  • Supervise and teach junior medical staff, interns, and residents.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation.
  • Participate in audits, research, morbidity and mortality meetings, and quality improvement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control practices, and patient safety standards.
  • Participate in on-call and shift duties as per departmental roster.
