Job Summary
The Senior Resident in Vascular & Endovascular Surgery is responsible for providing comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, emergency, operative, and perioperative care for patients with vascular diseases. The role includes assisting and independently performing procedures according to competency level, participating in emergency services, academic activities, research, and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees. Responsibilities typically include managing arterial, venous, and lymphatic disorders using both open surgical and endovascular techniques under consultant supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage patients in OPD, IPD, ICU, and Emergency.
- Perform detailed history taking, clinical examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
- Manage vascular emergencies including:
- Acute limb ischemia
- Aortic emergencies
- Vascular trauma
- Dialysis access complications
- Deep vein thrombosis
- Conduct preoperative and postoperative patient care.
- Participate in daily ward rounds with consultants.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and electronic medical records.
Operative Responsibilities
Assist and progressively perform procedures under supervision including:
- Peripheral arterial bypass surgery
- Carotid endarterectomy
- AV fistula creation and revision
- Varicose vein surgery
- Lower limb amputations
- Vascular access procedures
- Diagnostic angiography
- Peripheral angioplasty
- Stenting procedures
- Thrombectomy and thrombolysis
- Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR/TEVAR) assistance
- Hybrid vascular procedures according to competency.
Endovascular Responsibilities
- Assist in catheter-based vascular interventions.
- Interpret CT angiography, MR angiography, Doppler ultrasound, and conventional angiography.
- Participate in pre-procedure planning.
- Learn radiation safety and contrast management.
- Assist in device selection and deployment during interventions.
Academic Responsibilities
- Present seminars, journal clubs, and case discussions.
- Participate in mortality and morbidity meetings.
- Attend departmental academic sessions.
- Teach MBBS students, junior residents, and nursing staff.
- Participate in CME programs and conferences. Senior residents often take leadership roles in organising conferences and case discussions
