Job Title: Senior Registrar – Orthopaedic Surgery

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality clinical care to patients with orthopaedic conditions, support consultants in the diagnosis and management of patients, participate in elective and emergency surgical services, and ensure safe, efficient and evidence-based delivery of orthopaedic care.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage patients presenting with acute, chronic, traumatic and degenerative orthopaedic conditions.
  • Conduct comprehensive history-taking and physical examinations.
  • Formulate appropriate differential diagnoses and treatment plans under consultant supervision.
  • Review investigations including X-rays, CT scans, MRI and laboratory reports.
  • Participate in inpatient rounds, outpatient clinics and emergency services.
  • Monitor postoperative patients and identify complications at an early stage.
  • Provide appropriate preoperative and postoperative care.
  • Manage orthopaedic emergencies including fractures, dislocations, acute limb injuries and other trauma-related conditions.
  • Perform procedures within the scope of training and hospital privileges.

2. Surgical Responsibilities

  • Assist consultants in elective and emergency orthopaedic procedures.
  • Participate in fracture fixation, arthroplasty, arthroscopy, trauma surgery and other procedures appropriate to the department's scope of practice.
  • Perform procedures independently only when appropriately credentialed and authorized.
  • Ensure appropriate preoperative assessment, consent, investigations and surgical planning.
  • Participate in postoperative monitoring and management.
  • Maintain strict adherence to surgical safety protocols, including WHO Surgical Safety Checklist requirements.
