Job Summary

The Senior Resident in Gynaecologic Oncology will provide comprehensive clinical care to patients with suspected and confirmed gynaecological malignancies. The role includes inpatient and outpatient care, perioperative management, assisting in and performing procedures appropriate to the level of training, emergency care, multidisciplinary coordination, academic teaching, and participation in clinical research and quality-improvement activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage patients with suspected or confirmed gynaecological cancers, including cancers of the cervix, ovary, endometrium, vulva, vagina, and gestational trophoblastic disease.

• Conduct detailed clinical assessments, formulate differential diagnoses, and develop appropriate investigation and treatment plans.

• Participate in gynaecologic oncology outpatient clinics, inpatient rounds, emergency services, and pre-operative and post-operative care.

• Assist in and, where appropriately trained and credentialed, perform gynaecologic oncology procedures under consultant supervision.

• Participate in the surgical management of gynaecological malignancies, including staging procedures, cytoreductive surgery, and other relevant oncologic procedures.

• Provide perioperative care, including assessment of surgical fitness, optimisation of comorbidities, post-operative monitoring, and management of complications.

• Participate in the administration and monitoring of systemic anticancer treatment as per departmental protocols and institutional policies.

• Coordinate patient care with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, anaesthesia, palliative care, and other multidisciplinary teams.

• Present cases at multidisciplinary tumour boards and contribute to treatment planning.

• Counsel patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis, follow-up, fertility considerations, and supportive care.

• Recognise and manage oncological emergencies and post-operative complications, escalating appropriately to consultants and relevant specialties.

• Maintain accurate clinical records, operative notes, treatment documentation, discharge summaries, and follow-up plans.

• Supervise and guide junior residents, interns, and medical students in clinical and academic activities.

• Participate in departmental teaching, case presentations, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality meetings, CME programmes, and academic discussions.

• Participate in clinical audits, research projects, clinical trials, publications, and quality-improvement initiatives.

• Ensure adherence to hospital policies, infection-control measures, patient-safety standards, ethical requirements, and applicable clinical protocols.
