Position: Senior Resident – Urology

Job Summary

The Senior Resident – Urology will provide comprehensive clinical and surgical care to patients with urological disorders, participate in elective and emergency urological procedures, supervise junior residents, and contribute to academic and research activities under the guidance of Consultant Urologists/HOD.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct urology OPD consultations, clinical assessments, and follow-up.
  • Manage admitted patients, perform daily rounds, and formulate treatment plans.
  • Attend and manage urological emergencies, including acute urinary retention, renal colic, urosepsis, hematuria, and urological trauma.
  • Assist in and, where appropriately credentialed, independently perform urological procedures.
  • Participate in endourology, laparoscopy, open urology, uro-oncology, and other departmental surgical procedures.
  • Perform/assist with procedures such as catheterization, cystoscopy, ureteric stenting, suprapubic catheterization, TURP and other endoscopic procedures according to competence and hospital privileges.
  • Provide preoperative assessment, informed consent, perioperative management, and postoperative care.
  • Identify and manage postoperative complications and seek consultant assistance when required.
  • Interpret relevant laboratory investigations and urological imaging, including USG, CT, MRI, KUB, and other studies.
  • Counsel patients and relatives regarding diagnosis, treatment options, operative risks, and follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records, operative notes, discharge summaries, and clinical documentation.
  • Supervise and guide junior residents, interns, and medical students during clinical work and procedures.
  • Participate in departmental teaching, case presentations, journal clubs, CME activities, and academic meetings.
  • Participate in clinical audits, research projects, publications, and quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate patient care with other departments and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in the departmental emergency/on-call roster.
  • Follow hospital policies, infection-control protocols, patient-safety standards, and professional/ethical requirements.
