Job Description – Senior Registrar, Cardiac Anaesthesia

Reports To: Consultant / Head of Cardiac Anaesthesia
Location: Narayana Institute of Cradiac Science

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-anaesthetic assessment and optimization of patients undergoing cardiac and cardiothoracic surgery.

• Provide anaesthesia for:

  • CABG and valve replacement/repair procedures

  • Aortic and other major cardiothoracic surgeries

  • Congenital cardiac procedures, as applicable

  • Emergency and high-risk cardiac procedures

• Manage intraoperative haemodynamics using advanced monitoring techniques, including arterial and central venous monitoring and, where indicated, pulmonary artery catheterization and TEE.

• Assist with management of cardiopulmonary bypass, including initiation, maintenance and separation from bypass, in coordination with the cardiac surgical and perfusion teams.

• Manage difficult airway, major bleeding, coagulation abnormalities, arrhythmias and perioperative cardiovascular instability.

• Provide postoperative care in the cardiac surgical ICU, including mechanical ventilation, vasoactive/inotropic support and haemodynamic optimization.

• Participate in emergency cardiac and resuscitation services, including ACLS/CPR.

• Assist with perioperative TEE and other advanced cardiac monitoring, according to training and competency.

• Participate in multidisciplinary discussions with cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, intensivists and perfusionists.

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, anaesthesia records and handover.

• Participate in teaching and supervision of junior residents/registrars and other trainees.

• Participate in departmental audits, quality-improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality meetings, and clinical research where applicable.

• Follow hospital policies, infection-control practices, patient-safety standards and professional/ethical guidelines.

• Participate in on-call, night and weekend duties as per departmental roster.
