Senior Resident – Paediatric Cardiology

Designation: Senior Resident – Paediatric Cardiology
Reports to: Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist / Head of Department
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage infants, children and adolescents with congenital and acquired heart diseases.
- Conduct detailed cardiovascular assessment, formulate diagnoses and develop treatment plans.
- Manage common congenital heart diseases, cyanotic heart disease, heart failure, arrhythmias and paediatric cardiac emergencies.
- Perform and interpret ECGs, chest X-rays and other basic cardiac investigations.
- Assist in and perform echocardiography under appropriate supervision, including 2D, Doppler and colour Doppler studies.
- Assist in transcatheter interventions such as device closures, balloon valvuloplasty and other catheter-based procedures, as applicable.
- Participate in pre- and post-operative management of children undergoing congenital heart surgery.
- Manage patients in the paediatric cardiac ICU and high-dependency areas.
- Recognise and manage acute deterioration, cyanotic spells, arrhythmias and cardiac failure.
- Participate in inpatient rounds, OPD services, emergency duties and on-call responsibilities.
- Counsel parents/guardians regarding diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis and follow-up.
- Maintain accurate clinical records, procedure notes and discharge summaries.
- Participate in academic activities, case discussions, teaching, audits and clinical research.
- Supervise and guide junior residents and other clinical trainees.
