Senior Resident – Cardiac Anaesthesia

Reports to: Consultant / Head of Cardiac Anaesthesia

Key responsibilities

  • Provide perioperative anaesthesia care for adult and paediatric cardiac surgery patients.
  • Preoperative assessment and optimisation of patients undergoing cardiac procedures.
  • Conduct and assist with general anaesthesia for CABG, valve surgery, congenital heart surgery, aortic surgery and other major cardiac procedures.
  • Manage high-risk and critically ill cardiac patients in the ICU.
  • Perform/assist with invasive monitoring including arterial and central venous access.
  • Exposure to TEE/TOE and perioperative echocardiography is desirable.
  • Manage postoperative haemodynamic instability, bleeding, arrhythmias and other complications.
  • Participate in emergency cardiac surgery and on-call duties.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in morbidity/mortality meetings and academic activities.
  • Teach and supervise junior residents and trainees.
