Job Purpose

 

 

 

 

To manage patients either preparing for or recovering from a bone marrow transplant. BMT patients are highly immunosuppressed and very susceptible to infection and require specialized medications.

Job Responsibilities

 

 

General Responsibility

  • Adhere and comply with Organization Regulations and Administrative Policies.
  • Adhere and comply with policies and procedure related to patient care, infection control, patient safety and accreditation standard.

Care Delivery

  • Demonstrate clinical competence in all aspects of patient care.
  • Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of care and assess the impact of nursing intervention as appropriate.
  • Assessment and reassessment of pain and management of pain
  • Ensure compliance with all policy and procedure for medication management.
  • Explain plan of care to patient and family.
  • Document all patients records as per policies and standards. 
  • Educate patient and family as required.
  • Ensure the involvement of the patient, family and significant others in the patient's care.
  • Assist in cannula insertion.
  • Support staff nurses in handling central lines and ensuring infection-control precautions.
  • Oversee patient allocation and maintain patient detail records.

Quality Management

  • Monitor clinical and other established performance indicators to ensure ongoing quality Improvement.
  • Follow international patient safety goals.
  • Report all near miss, sentinel events and any other incidents.
  • Always maintain privacy and confidentiality of patient information and records.
  • Comply with all quality standards as decided by organization for patient safety and quality of care

Training and Development

  • Participate and contribute in scheduled in service training programs like ACLS, BLS, PALS, NALS (If applicable), CNEs, conferences etc.,

Functional Area Responsibility

  • Blood transfusion and nursing management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge on GRBS and normal / critical value.
  • Administration, storage and disposal of Narcotics as per policy.
  • Create awareness regarding Personal Protective Equipment and Post Exposure Prophylaxis.
  • Early detection of cancer and its prevention, safe handling of chemotherapy drugs.
  • Pre-operative preparation of the patients in Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.
  • Drug and Intra venous fluid calculations.
  • Knowledge on Diagnostic procedures in oncology (Endoscopy, MRI, CT scan, USG, FNAC, Cytology, Mammography, Pap Smear, Fluoroscopy, Radioisotopes).
  • Assist in bone marrow procedures, aspiration, biopsy etc.,
  • Demonstrates knowledge on post procedural complications like Graft Verse Host Disease and Veno Occlusive Disease etc.,
  • Knowledge on Oncology emergencies / complications.

Candidate Requirements

 

 

Education: Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in nursing   

Registration: Valid registration in the State Nursing Council from where B.Sc. Nursing/GNM was completed.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience.
