Job Responsibilities:

Patient Diagnosis and Evaluation:

  • Conduct detailed medical history interviews and physical examinations of patients presenting with gynaecologic symptoms.
  • Perform and interpret diagnostic tests, including pelvic exams, biopsies, ultrasounds, CT scans, MRIs, and Pap smears.
  • Provide accurate diagnosis and staging of gynaecologic cancers (ovarian, cervical, uterine, vulvar, vaginal).

Treatment Planning and Management:

  • Develop and implement personalized treatment plans for cancer patients, considering their individual needs and the type/stage of cancer.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and surgeons, to develop integrated treatment approaches.
  • Administer or prescribe chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or other treatments as part of the oncology care plan.
  • Provide counselling and support to patients and their families regarding treatment options, side effects, and outcomes.

Surgical Care:

  • Perform advanced surgeries, such as radical hysterectomies, debulking surgery for ovarian cancer, pelvic exenterations, and other procedures necessary for treating gynaecologic cancers.
  • Provide post-operative care and monitor patients for complications related to surgery or treatment.

Follow-up and Long-term Care:

  • Monitor patient progress through regular follow-up visits, including managing recurrence and assessing response to ongoing treatments.
  • Coordinate with rehabilitation specialists and palliative care teams for symptom management and quality of life support, particularly for terminal or advanced cancer stages.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all patients.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, tumour board discussions, and case reviews.
  • Contribute to hospital policy development and quality improvement initiatives related to gynaecologic oncology care.

 Compliance and Safety:

  • Adhere to hospital protocols, infection control guidelines, and ethical standards.
  • Ensure all procedures and treatments comply with regulatory and legal requirements
