Job Purpose

Focuses on identifying, controlling and preventing outbreaks of infection in all areas of the facility.

Job Responsibility

  • To liaise between Microbiology departments and Clinical departments for detection and control of Hospital Acquired infection.
  • To collaborate with the ICO on surveillance of infection and detection of outbreaks
  • To collect specimens and undertake preliminary processing. Should be trained in basic microbiological techniques.
  • Should be involved in training programmes under supervision of the ICO and the

Controller –Training.

  • Should collaborate with Housekeeping –In charge and CSSD in charge to report back any issues to the ICO.
  • To assist the ICO and the training –Head in carrying out audits.
  • To conduct rounds to assess proper waste disposal and hand hygiene.
  • To participate in the development and revision of infection control policies and procedures, as well as investigate suspected outbreaks of infections
  • Analyze infection control data, and plan, implement and evaluate infection prevention and control measures.
  • To provide education about infection risk, prevention and control
  • Co-ordinating patient care with other team members.

 ADMINISTRATION

  • Facilitates the operation of the hospital Infection Prevention/Control Program and supports continuous quality improvement.
  • Supports the hospital and medical staff, departments and teams including guidance, training, technical support, celebrating successes and continued learning related to infection prevention.
  • Supports hospital CQI activities with data support, analysis, and internal consulting.
  • Consults with managers in clinical and non-clinical areas. - Identifies, investigates, reports, health care associated infections among patients and personnel through ongoing surveillance.
  • Collaborates with HR and provides direction regarding employee health issues such as exposures, vaccines or vaccine preventable diseases, communicable diseases and other infection prevention/control related issues involving hospital employees.
  • Collaborates and reports to appropriate agencies / regulatory organizations -Public Health regarding communicable diseases -State reporting requirements and initiatives - mandatory reporting
  • Complies with Standards of Employee Conduct as noted in Policies and Procedures.
  • To complete any other work assigned/ required from time to time basis.
