Key Responsibilities of a Gynaecological Oncology DNB:
  • Diagnosis and Staging:
    Taking detailed patient histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests (including imaging and pathology), and staging the cancer. 
     
  • Treatment Planning:
    Developing individualized treatment plans based on the stage and type of cancer, which may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination of these. 
     
  • Surgical Skills:
    Performing radical surgeries for gynecological cancers, including the ability to manage surgical and anesthetic risks and potential complications. 
     
  • Medical Oncology:
    Managing patients with chemotherapy, including understanding drug pharmacology, treatment protocols, and managing side effects. 
     
  • Radiation Oncology:
    Understanding the principles of radiation therapy, its indications, and potential side effects. 
     
  • Multidisciplinary Care:
    Collaborating with other specialists (surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, etc.) in a multidisciplinary team setting. 
     
  • Patient Education and Counseling:
    Providing patients and their families with information about the cancer, treatment options, prognosis, and supportive care. 
     
  • Research and Academic Activities:
    Participating in research, presenting at conferences, and contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field. 
     
  • Ethical and Legal Considerations:
    Understanding the ethical and legal aspects of cancer care, including informed consent and end-of-life care. 
     
  • Post-treatment Care:
    Providing follow-up care, monitoring for recurrence, and managing long-term effects of treatment.
